Eric Ford – Club Statement

13/11/2016 17:11

Dear Players and Friends,

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Eric Ford , a former player, Secretary, patron and loyal member of Gore Court Hockey Club, passed away last week after a long battle with illness.

Eric was ‘Mr hockey’ at Gore Court for over 50 years. He worked tirelessly for the Hockey section and the Club and was also Secretary and President of Kent hockey. With regard to GCHC oversaw the section going from 2 teams to 7 in the early 80s, the development of the pitches on the top ground and the steady rise of GC becoming a National League club in the late 80s/early 90s. He was instrumental in organising the funding for and building of the astro at Westlands School and, up until very recently, provided up to date league charts on the Club notice board. He was equally happy sharing a ‘half’ at the bar and discussing hockey times past and present.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The funeral will be held at 1pm on Wednesday 23 November 2016 at Bredgar Church. A  The family will then host a reception afterwards at The Grove (from approx. 2.30pm).

Family flowers only. However, should you wish to make a donation, they can be made to either Bredgar Church, Blind Veterans Uk or The Royal Star and Garter Home. Cheques can be made payable to the organisations detailed and sent to the Funeral Directors:  R High & Sons, 1 Bayford Road, Sittingbourne, ME10 3AD (01795 472958).

To help with planning the reception, the family need an idea of numbers. As such, could you please let me know by return whether you and/or your partner/spouse and /or children will be attending the reception.

A simple Yes/No with names would suffice.
